Norwalk Permits

  1. Driveways and curb cuts. Replacing or adding to a driveway, or cutting a curb, goes through the Building Department with a site plan showing the driveway's dimensions and its distance to property lines.
  2. Work in the right-of-way. Sidewalks, curb, approaches and any digging in the street use the Metro right-of-way permit application. Norwalk wants it at least five business days before work starts, along with a $75 fee, the contractor's liability insurance and a $10,000 annual bond. Until those documents are on file, the City won't schedule sidewalk or approach inspections.
  3. Large digs on private land. A big excavation outside the right-of-way may need a separate excavation permit, which costs $25.

Because of the five-day lead time, we file Norwalk paperwork as soon as you approve the quote.

Around Norwalk

Norwalk sits just south of the Des Moines International Airport and grew from a one-square-mile town at its 1900 incorporation through annexations of farmland and neighborhoods like Lakewood and Echo Valley. Lakewood was started in 1965 around man-made Lake Colchester, and two of Norwalk's three golf courses, Echo Valley and the Legacy, sit inside residential developments.
